About Scott Somers

History of Serving Mesa

Scott Somers has spent over a decade serving the residents of District 6. After serving two influential terms from 2006 to 2015, Scott returned to the City Council in 2023 with a renewed mission to balance economic growth with preserving the character of our neighborhoods that makes our community so special. Scott remains steadfast in his commitment to fiscal responsibility, economic development, and enhancing the quality of life for every Mesa family.

Committed to Keeping Mesa Safe

Drawing from a career spent on the front lines of emergency services, Scott is a dedicated advocate for the safety of our neighborhoods. He combines real-world experience with national influence, serving on boards like the National League of Cities Public Safety & Crime Prevention Steering Committee and FirstNet Broadband Network Public Safety Advisory Committee to champion better resources for first responders. By advising at the federal level and leading locally in Mesa, Scott’s mission is simple: applying his lifelong expertise in public safety to keep every family and first responder safe.

Moving Mesa Forward

Somers has been a driving force behind the transformation of the Mesa Gateway Area, evolving it into a premier national hub for high-wage employment in advanced manufacturing and aerospace. By successfully championing the arrival of industry leaders such as XNRGY, Hadrian, Gulfstream, and KoMiCo, he has brought high-value jobs to the district with salaries that significantly exceed the regional average. Scott's Quality Retail Initiative is also actively elevating the southeast Mesa lifestyle by attracting higher-quality dining, hospitality, and shopping destinations. Key projects like Eastmarket, Legacy Park, and Cannon Beach reflect his commitment to bringing premier amenities to the community.

Longtime Mesa Resident

A longtime Mesa resident, Scott and his wife, Janell, moved to Mesa more than 30 years ago following their service in the US Air Force. Their son Tyler is an electrical engineer. Their daughter is a chemist and son-in-law an Air Force Officer assigned to Luke Air Force Base. Scott and Janell are proud grandparents to their three grandchildren.

Scott Somers has the experience to lead, the vision to grow, and the heart to serve. Let’s keep moving Mesa forward.
