“During my time as Mayor, we worked hard to change the way Mesa does business. Scott Somers was integral part of that council that made that vision a reality. We collaborated closely to save taxpayer money, invest in infrastructure, attract higher education opportunities, and transform the former GM Proving Grounds into the vision that is Eastmark today. Through our efforts to ‘Build a Better Mesa’ we brought residents, businesses, and government together for the common good. Mr. Somers served Mesa well and I support his efforts to return to leadership to finish what we started.”
“It has been my honor to serve the citizens of Mesa for two terms as the Councilman for District 6. Together, we have worked hard to keep taxes low, attract jobs, and support high quality development. I would like to thank you for putting your trust in me to be a strong voice for growing Mesa. I want to ensure that District 6 is in good hands with someone who will continue to stand up for what is right and ask the tough questions. District 6 needs a representative who will listen to you and put the better good of our community before their own. That person is Scott Somers.”
“During my time as Mesa Chief of Police, I worked closely with Scott Somers as we developed Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design. Together, the City Council and Police Department established ordinances on massage parlors, motels, and other developments in order to crack down on crime in the community. He also worked to free up police resources by encouraging use of civilian investigators which improved outcomes and kept more officers available to patrol the streets. Scott Somers is a proven champion for public safety, and we can fully count on him to back the boys in blue.”

“I worked with Scott Somers for many years during my time in the legislature as well as on the school board. He understands the critical intersection between quality education and the long-term quality of life and economic growth of our community. Mesa has built a solid reputation for excellent schools because of the well-established partnerships between the local public, private, and charter schools and the local elected officials. Mr. Somers is a great pick to return to the Mesa City Council.”
"When I moved my aerospace business to the Phoenix-Mesa-Gateway airport in 2013, Scott Somers demonstrated his commitment to creating better conditions for the families of our 500 employees to work, live, learn and play in Mesa. Improving these conditions for families is something Scott understands."
“During his time on Mesa City Council, Scott Somers worked hard to improve transportation and support transit service for our community. As the former Mesa Transit Services Director, I worked closely with him to ensure that people, goods and services could move safely within our city. Within weeks of taking office in 2006, he worked to save dial-a-ride service for seniors and people with disabilities and worked together with regional partners and city staff to make the transit system more efficient and sustainable. Scott advocated for and supported the start-up of Power Rd Route 184, the first bus service in District 6. We also opened up Valley Metro's first trial service, Route 244 Baseline, the first service east of Power Road in Mesa. He served our city well during his time on the Valley Metro / Regional Public Transportation Authority and has the knowledge and experience to help District 6 keep up with growth and reduce congestion.”
“The Mesa City Council works well because we have elected officials committed to working together to benefit all of the city. I represented West Mesa for a long time while Mr. Somers represented the eastern-most portions of the city. We were able to see how investing in both the established and growing parts of the community would benefit everyone. While other cities suffer from regional divisions, Scott Somers was always committed to working together to find common ground and build a stronger Mesa for everyone.”
"The future of Mesa’s economy depends on a fully realized and well executed economic development of Gateway and the surrounding area. There is no one with better historic knowledge and experience than Scott Somers. From his efforts to originally establish the LaunchPoint business accelerator to the thousands of jobs he helped to attract in the Southeast Valley, we know that he has the wherewithal and track record to get things done.”
“During his previous time on the Mesa City Council, Scott Somers had a vision for the future of what Phoenix-Mesa Gateway could be and worked diligently to make it a reality. Now, more than a decade later, his focus on the growth of the airport and attracting technology high-wage jobs is paying off. The airport is now an employment hub and a destination for innovation. That’s why we chose to locate our business – one of the world’s leading providers of aircraft asset management, disassembly, maintenance and component repair services – to Gateway. Scott is the right person to finish the job he started.”
“As a physician, I am an advocate for reducing health care costs and providing high quality care to patients. When I was medical director for the Mesa Fire & Medical Department, I worked with Scott Somers on several programs to link fire services with with private care entities to provide home health visits for seniors, veterans, and those with difficulty accessing health care services. These programs significantly reduced 911 calls and preventable emergency department visits saving taxpayer dollars and keeping vital services available for critical health care needs. Mesa will certainly benefit from his innovative approach to solving problems.”
“I have known Scott Somers for many years and supported his election efforts during his previous time on the council. Throughout the years, Scott has worked diligently to ensure that Mesa is a safe and family friendly destination for people to live and for tourists to visit. He has been a long-time supporter of the Cactus League, helped to revive the Veterans Day parade, and worked to create Mesa Celebration of Freedom – one our signature events. I am proud to give him my support.”
“Scott represents a clear and competent voice of reason and commitment. He is a true leader, a personal friend, and a fellow veteran. Mesa needs his vision and experience during these times of rapid change.”
“As a former teacher and current Mesa Public Schools board member, I have a deep understanding of the essential link between our schools and our quality of life. Great schools make great neighborhoods and great cities. Scott Somers understands this and will continue the excellent working relationship
between our schools and the City of Mesa. As the father of two STEM graduates, Scott has firsthand-experience in the importance of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. We can count on Scott Somers to be a champion for training our future workforce. I am pleased to give him my support.”
"I worked closely with Scott Somers as we developed Mesa Fire’s Community Care Units - the innovative program that helped improve public safety and more effectively respond to certain types of health emergencies. The program became a national model for other communities to follow. Scott has proven time and again how much he believes in this community, and how much he is willing to do for it. He is an effective leader and an innovator. I am very pleased to be able to endorse Scott."
“Scott Somers has lived in District 6 for more than 27 years. He raised his family here. He cares deeply about preserving our quality of life in Mesa. As a volunteer on the Mesa Parks & Rec Board, I know how hard Scott worked for us when he was on city council. He helped acquire vacant land to expand Monterey Park, which recently added new playground amenities and will soon add new sports fields for kids. He opened the Mesa Express Library at Power Square Mall, the first library in Mesa in 24 years. Please join me in supporting Scott Somers for Mesa City Council.”

"Scott Somers is a proven leader in high education. During his time on council, he was instrumental in helping ASU Polytechnic in its transformation from its beginnings as ASU East to the innovative and award-winning polytechnic campus that it is now. Somers spearheaded efforts to partner with ASU Polytechnic on projects such as LaunchPoint, a technology small business accelerator, and kicked off the transformation of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport area. He understands that higher education is essential for the long-term economic prosperity of our region and will be a proven voice for education when he returns to the council.”
“Now more than ever, we need someone on the Mesa City Council who will continue Councilmember Thompson’s a strong voice for protecting the taxpayers and promoting fiscal responsibility. Somers did that before when he was on the council, and we can count on him to do it again. He helped the City of Mesa navigate through the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression and found creative ways to solve problems such as implementing ‘transitional response vehicles’ for emergencies, restructuring city operations, and finding other cost cutting measures.”
With most of the ballots counted, I am pleased to say that we are in the lead with more than 58% of the vote! I am humbled by the overwhelming support and trust the voters of District 6 have placed in me.
